Salvia 'Purple Majesty' (Purple Majesty Sage)

Sun to Part SunZone: 7b-10, at least 48" tall Origin: Hybrid

Web-Only! Salvia 'Purple Majesty' is the result of a cross by California's Fred Boutin of S. guaranitica and S. gesneriiflora 'Tequila', that was introduced by the Huntington Gardens around 1980. This tough-as-nails salvia makes a wonderful garden specimen, combining the best features of the floriferous S. guaranitica and the clumping S. gesneraeflora. Starting in mid-summer and continuing until fall, the 4' tall clumps burst into flower with 10" terminal spikes of dark blue-purple. S. 'Purple Majesty' has shown good winter hardiness here, surviving extended periods at or slightly below 0 degrees F. Rich soil provides for the best performance...but then, don't we all perform best when rich? Pot size: 24 fl. oz (709.77 ml)
