Liriope sp. 'Porcupine' (Stiff Leaf Liriope)

Sun to ShadeZone: 6-9, guessing 10" tall Origin: China

Web-Only! We originally obtained this liriope from a grower in China, who claimed it was an Ophiopogon. In our trials, this still unidentified species of liriope has turned out to be a marvelous garden liriope, so we have assigned it the cultivar name 'Porcupine'. We have requested its true identity from both the CIA and the vice president's office and hope for cooperation. The 10" tall x 2' wide clumps (non-running) are composed of very narrow, very stiff, dark green leaves. In September, the clumps are topped with very attractive 20" flower spikes of lavender flowers. In November, the fruit turns jet black. L. 'Porcupine' provides a great non-spreading, light textural contrast in the woodland garden. Pot size: 24 fl. oz (709.77 ml)
