Hippeastrum 'Ackermanii' (Ackerman's Hardy Amaryllis) slide #19637
Church, Brownsville, TX / Scott Ogden

Hippeastrum 'Ackermanii' (Ackerman's Hardy Amaryllis)

Sun to Part SunZone: 7-10, possibly colder 20" tall Origin: Hybrid

There are many plants parading around under the moniker H. x johnsonii. Most of the plants actually seem to be this old hybrid between H. aulicum and H. x johnsonii. H. 'Ackermanii' is an extremely hardy and vigorous cultivar. The wide, glossy green leaves are topped in late April and May with 20" spikes ending in star-shaped, red flowers with a white star central pattern. H. 'Ackermanii' multiplies rapidly, so I hope you have plenty of friends with whom to share. Pot size: 24 fl. oz (709.77 ml)
