Heliopsis helianthoides 'Prairie Sunset' PP 13,779 (False Sunflower)

SunZone: 4-8 72" tall Origin: USA

Web-Only! This easy-to-grow 2002 introduction from the WI wild man, native plant guru, Neil Diboll, is an amazing selection of the native Heliopsis helianthoides. In our trials, H. 'Prairie Sunset' has been a standout compared to past European selections. In spring, the black-purple stems emerge on stalks that quickly reach 6' tall. Starting in early June and continuing into early August (in NC), the clumps are topped with dazzling masses of 2", golden-orange flowers that contrast well with the purple stems. Even as the flowers fade, they take on a unique white pattern on the edge of the flowers. We think you will really enjoy this for a brilliant summer show in the perennial border. Pot size: 24 fl. oz (709.77 ml)
