C. x ventricosum was long thought to be a new species, until research showed it to be a natural hybrid of Cypripedium calceolus and C. macranthos...I guess anything goes when the nights get cold and lonely. The slippers range from lavender to brownish, depending on which parent contributed the most genes, and the same goes for the 3 sepals...purple to brown striped.
