We have grown this splendid species since the mid-1990's and cannot imagine why it is not more widely grown. Naturally occurring in the region along the Black Sea, it can be found growing in moist soils along the forest edge and in full sun. The clump of upright spade-shaped green leaves is adorned in very early April by a wide 8" maroon spathe, highlighted by a prominent white spadix, often spotted with maroon. As the morning air warms, the inflorescence exudes the robust aroma of farm-fresh dung. As with all arums, they are summer dormant, so mark the spot well. Pot size: 24 fl. oz (709.77 ml)
