Gaillardia aristata 'Fanfare' PP 15,892 (Fanfare Blanketflower)

SunZone: 3-9 15" tall Origin: USA
Discovered by Richard Reed in the UK, this hot gaillardia is ready to take the perennial world by storm. I don't usually get excited by gaillardias, but I'll never forget the first time I laid eyes on this beauty...my wife slapped me (just kidding). The compact, 15" tall x 12" wide, well-branched mound is topped from June to August with the most incredible flowers. Each upturned 3" wide flower head looks as if miniature honeysuckle flowers are attached to a central cone. Each floret is red at the base, changing to bright yellow at the flared tips. You've got to see this to believe it. Pot size: 24 fl. oz (709.77 ml) #05566

Gaura
Gaura sprung onto the gardening scene in the early 1980's from its previous role as an obscure US native roadside perennial. Since then, breeders from around the world have realized its garden potential and have bred for and selected new garden worthy varieties. For full sun and dry conditions, its flower power is virtually unmatched. We are pleased to offer what we think are some of the best selections.

Geranium (Hardy Geranium or Cranesbill)
Not to be confused with pelargonium (florist geranium), these are long recognized as some of the most durable garden perennials. Not as flashy as many perennials, geraniums are experiencing a resurgence in popularity as an unbeatable uniting element in gardens. The attractive foliage, combined with the easily blendable flowers, makes geraniums a permanent staple in the perennial garden. We offer some of the best new and heat-tolerant selections from this wonderful group.
Geranium 'Anne Thomson' (Hardy Cranesbill)

Geranium 'Anne Thomson' (Hardy Cranesbill)

Sun to Part SunZone: 4-8a 15" tall Origin: Hybrid
Web-Only! Garden designers who enjoy working with wild color combinations will love this new geranium. Geranium 'Anne Thomson' is our newest favorite of the gold-leaf hardy geraniums. In our trials, the heat tolerance has put the old standard, G. 'Ann Folkard', to shame. The dazzling, bright yellow-foliaged, 3' wide clump is topped with violet flowers from spring until midsummer. Geranium 'Anne Thomson' remained vigorous after 70+ days over 90 degrees F in 2002. Our summer from hell made compost of many other supposedly heat-tolerant geraniums. We think you will love this one! Pot size: 24 fl. oz (709.77 ml) #05057

Sun to Part SunZone: 5-8 15" tall Origin: Hybrid    alternate image
If you think Geranium 'Rozanne' and G. 'Jolly Bee' are great, you'll love this purple-flowered form (RHS 80A). The name must be another example of male color-blindness. Netherlands nurseryman Marco van Noort found this mutation in his plants of G. 'Jolly Bee' and subsequently named it G. 'Pink Penny'. Just like its parent, G. 'Pink Penny' makes an 15" tall x 18" wide mound of white-patterned green foliage that is topped from June until frost with 2.5" wide purple flowers, each highlighted with dramatic dark veining. This is a tremendously exciting new introduction for everyone, but especially for those of us in the geranium-impaired southeastern US. Pot size: 24 fl. oz (709.77 ml) #07569
